I love and appreciate modern technology, and more specifically, the internet. I'm grateful for the means it provides us for keeping in touch across the miles, no matter how many may span between us and the ones we love.
As much as I'm grateful for the instant connection across the internet, I'm still an old-fashioned girl who loves to get mail! You know---the kind that you write with a pen, stick in an envelope, lick closed, and stamp with a 42-center. The month of December finds me somewhat giddy as I await our mailman's delivery each day. I love stepping out on to my porch and retrieving a stack of brightly colored envelopes from my mailbox!
Staying in touch with friends and family is important to me, and I look forward to planning and preparing to send out our Christmas cards each year. As I page through my pretty pink address book and write the oh-so-familiar names on the envelopes, I pray for these who somehow over the course of time have left an impression on our hearts. They may be those we see weekly; they may be those we haven't see in a long, long time. But whatever the case, God has connected and united us. And I want them to know that I'm grateful for that.
Following each holiday season, we used to place all of the photos cards we'd received in one of those photo rolodex-thingees. Each night as we tucked our boys in bed, one of them would flip the page to a new smiling family. We'd spend time praying for them. That tradition continued for many, many years. In fact, that rolodex has seen better days. Its cover is graced in stickers placed there by little hands a long time ago.
These days, the Christmas photos we receive decorate our French doors during the Christmas season. After Christmas, I adhere them to the side of our fridge. Since we all spend a lot of time in the kitchen, it's an ongoing reminder of the loved ones God has placed in our lives; a reminder to thank Him for these blessings and pray for their precious families.
Wishing you and yours a joy-filled Christmas as you celebrate the night of our dear Savior's birth!
