A Decade of Loving You

Today we celebrate the 10th birthday of our little man who brings so much light and joy and life into every single day. I remember waking up ten years ago this morning, discovering that my water had broken. I was somewhat alarmed, as our baby wasn't due for another 3 1/2 weeks. I called my doctor and he told me to come on in. I remember asking, "Is it okay? He's not due yet." My doctor responded something like, "Well, it's gonna have to be okay, 'cause ready or not, that baby's coming!" That's a snapshot of our Lukie...surprising us and bringing joy when we least expect it.

There are so many qualities I see in Luke that cause me to break out in exclamations of thanks to God...his ready smile, deep belly laugh, and zeal for life. I'm thankful for his ability to make friends wherever he goes. He has a genuine love for people, and I'm so thankful for how God uses his easy, outgoing disposition to encourage others and bring a smile to their faces.

I'm thankful that Luke knows what he believes and isn't swayed by the opinions of those who tell him otherwise. I pray that God will only grow and deepen this trait as he grows, yet give him a heart of humility and grace.

I'm thankful for Luke's tender, selfless heart. So many times as we're making family plans, whether it be where to go, where to eat, or what to watch on TV, his first question is "Mom, what do you want?"

My little man is a foodie. He loves to create in the kitchen, pairing new tastes and inventing new combinations. He's the first to volunteer to help me when I'm cooking, and I'm thankful for all the memories we've made working side by side.

My Lukie loves so wholeheartedly and sincerely. He brightens the darkest of days. He brings adventure, perspective, and hope to my life. He's causes me to laugh everyday. He reminds me of what's important. His life encourages me to embrace each moment to the full. He inspires me and motivates me and balances me.

To my not-so-little-anymore-son (who will always be my baby) ~ I love you with all my heart, and I thank God for using you to light up the lives of all those around you. You are a joy and a treasure, my son. Happy 10th Birthday!
