Christmas music has been filling my home for well over a month. Depending on the particular song, my whole family might break out in a dance (Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree). But there are quiet, more peaceful moments, too. As I bake or wrap presents, the familiar tunes envelop each room with joy. I reflect and ponder much in my heart, and on occasion, I might even sing along. Sometimes I'm moved to tears, as when listening to my most favorite Christmas carol ever, "O Come, O Come Emmanuel."
Other times I'll be driving down the road listening to the radio, and a new Christmas song will enter my repertoire. In recent years, my very favorite new releases have included Casting Crowns' "God Is With Us," Chris Tomlin's "Emmanuel" (Hallowed Manger Ground), and this year, Francesca Batistelli's, "You're Here."
As I recently reflected on my favorite Christmas songs, I detected a theme.
Emmanuel. God with us.
These are the songs that strike a chord in my heart. Our God...our Creator...our Savior and King is here. He didn't simply see our helpless, hopeless state and the sin which separated us from Him. He acted. He became one of us and came to dwell among us. And He took our sin upon Himself and paid for it at the cross. What joy and comfort fills my heart in knowing that He is here. No matter what circumstances may be taking place all around me, I have peace in knowing that my Savior and King is with me. And all is well.

Thanks for sharing these songs - and for having some on your blog. I can't find most of my Christmas CDs and now I'm listening to your music instead. :-)
