Light In the Darkness

Our "baby" recently turned 12.
His birthday fell amidst some dark, painful days of grief:
a time of knowing that our friend, Mark, would soon be going Home;
a time of ministering to a couple of friends who had recently lost their wives;
a time of supporting other friends in the wake of their new or returned cancer diagnoses and unexpected surgery.
a time when another dear friend finished her race and ran straight into the arms of Jesus.

But as I've pointed out before, "Luke" means "bringer of light."
And Luke could not be more aptly named.
For he leaves a wake of smiles and joy and laughter---wherever he goes.
He has an easy way of simply "being."
Kids and adults alike are drawn to him.
He brightens the darkest room.
He brings hope and perspective.
He shines with the light of Jesus.

He's our "baby" who's not such a baby anymore.
He's our feeler.  Our comedian.  Our bringer of light.
And our hearts rejoice in the gift of him.

Happy, Happy Birthday, Lucas Jon.
We love you more...XO
