[Choosing joy] Psalm 113:9 says,
"He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children. Praise the Lord!"
We as women are the thermostat of our homes. It's my responsibility to create the atmosphere within my four walls. I've seen far too often how my bad attitude, unwise words, and quick temper can impact, influence, and deflate the guys in my house. It can have a definite chilling effect! However, I've also seen how a positive attitude, words of affirmation, and a heart filled with the joy of the Lord can cause my guys' hearts to soar. My loving words, reactions, and responses bring warmth, comfort, and security. But how does this work in real life? Is it even possible?
As I pointed out in Part 1, all of these disciplines begin at the feet of Jesus: allowing Him to fill us and give us His perspective. Additionally, I believe it's good to know our triggers. My triggers seem to be very selfishly based---when the unending questions and demands infringe upon MY time; when I care more about MY agenda and to-dos rather than the hearts of the dear ones in my home.
Oh, we can feel the pressure mounting up in us, can't we? We know when we're going to lose it. Taking a mom time-out to regain perspective and composure is ok. Having a go-to verse that we read or, better yet, memorize is essential. That can diffuse or restore calm. When the pressure is rising, we can call out to God, knowing and believing He will give us the grace and strength needed for each moment. Because of and through Him, we truly can be joyful mother of children.
