joyful noises

Stop a moment.
What does your home sound like?
What sounds greet you as you pass through the door?

If I'm not tuned in to the sounds of my own home, I miss 'em.
I miss the heavenly chorus.

I hear
the ding indicating morning coffee bliss,
the clatter of dishes,
the tinkling of silverware,
the hum of the dishwasher.

I hear
the creaking of stairs,
the steady spray of the shower,
the reverberating depths of a bass,
the heavenward songs of praise.

I hear
the morning anthem of birds outside my window,
the chimes ringing out on my breezy front porch,
the pitter patter of rain on my rooftop,
the chirping of crickets in the moonlight.

I hear
the morning songs of a mama to son,
the back door signaling loved ones' return,
the playful banter of brothers,
the laughter of family.

I hear
humble "i'm sorry"s,
whispered "i love you"s,
steady breathing in the dark,
quiet and peace and grace.

[make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!]
Psalm 100:1
