September 11

Today marks the 5 year anniversary of the terrorist attacks on our country, and I find that my heart longs to pay tribute to the men and women whose lives were lost on that terrible day. I want to salute the courageous firemen and policemen who rushed into the buildings when everyone else was running out. I want to thank the heroes of United Flight 93 who gave of their lives to protect many more. I want to reach out and hug the families who lost their spouse, parent, child, or friend. I want them to know that 5 years later, we continue to pray for them.

There's so much that my heart longs to say, yet words seem to elude me.

But in reflecting on the events of September 11, 2001 in these past days, God reminded me of some precious verses from Romans. They're the same verses He imprinted on the heart of Lisa Beamer prior to her husband's death on September 11. And on this day of commemoration, I know it's God's Words, not my words, that offer the greatest hope, perspective, and encouragement.

"Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable are His judgments and how inscrutable His ways!
For who has known the mind of the Lord,
or who has been His counselor?
Or who has given a gift to Him
that He might be repaid?
For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things.
To Him be glory forever. Amen."
Romans 11:33-36

Blessed Be the Name of the Lord.
