1 unseasonably warm January day
X 1 spontaneous daddy =
1 spur-of-the-moment, fun-filled trip to the zoo!
My husband pulled me aside this morning and eagerly suggested that we surprise the boys with a trip to the zoo. After a brief internal wrestling within my mind (i.e. errands, lists, books, etc...), I excitedly agreed that a trip to the zoo would be a blast!
The day was further enhanced by lunch at a favorite restaurant, a trip to Toys 'R Us, and of course, coffee for my husband and me from one of our fave coffeehouses.
My heart is feeling full tonight. Why? I mean, it was just a trip to the zoo, wasn't it? Nuh-uh. Tonight I'm thankful that my husband and I are different in so many ways. I'm specifically thankful for his spontaneity that so graciously and wisely balances my more routinely scheduled mindset. And I know that he'd be the first to say that he, too, is grateful for the balanced perspective that I offer him. Afterall, when we returned home at 5:30pm, he and our oldest son sat down to write an English paper.
So tonight I thank God for both spontaneity and routine; the ordinary and the extraordinary; simple pleasures and grand, planned celebrations. And I'm thankful for the spontaneous, sweet memories God provided me with my men today.
