welcome back

Without doubt, the one good thing about being separated 3,500 miles from precious friends is the joy of whispering those treasured words, "welcome back." And after 2 long years apart, I finally got to utter those seemingly elusive words as my friend and her family visited over the past few weeks.

It's funny, when you have only a short time together, you make memories of the ordinary and the extraordinary. It doesn't matter where you are or what you do---you tuck it all away in your heart for safe-keeping. And when the time inevitably comes when you must painfully say, "see you later"---and the miles again stretch long and far between you---you pull those memories out and re-visit them. And you thank God, over and over again, for the joy and privilege of loving, being loved by, and growing with such a friend.
