Do you remember your vows?
You know, the ones you pledged on your wedding day?
That handsome groom of yours stood across from you, smiling.
He held your hands in his.
You were lost in his eyes.
And there, before God, friends, and family,
you made a promise.
It wasn't the stuff of fantasies or fairytales.
It wasn't simply a traditional part of the ceremony
to check off the list before moving on to the kiss.
It was a vow. a promise. a commitment before a holy God.
It was easy then.
But then "real" life began.
How are you doing keeping those vows?
Truth be told, I look back on 19 years of marriage and shudder at the realization of how many times I've utterly failed.
I promised to
Submit. Honor. Respect. Encourage. Pray. Cleave. Love.
Those were not mere words.
God took them seriously. And so must I.
They must be my glad choice with each new day.
And when I fall short and fail, God's grace and mercy is right there,
prompting me to seek forgiveness. make things right. begin again.
I still do.

Great decorating idea and I think I need the constant reminder to read!
Another friend just posted something similar on her blog! She was talking about how someone they knew carried a laminated copy of his vows folded up in his wallet where he would look at it from time to time, to remind him. Another couple they knew tattooed their vows on their forearms!
so I just might steal that idea...love that it is near your bedroom door. I hate that I have failed to honor and respect sometimes. It's so easy to lose perspective when you are drowning in the day to day. I love having the reminder of what is really important RIGHT there!
