I'm a Girlie Girl

Okay, I know that comes as no surprise to those of you who know me in real life (and perhaps not even to those who don't). Being the sole blessed female in a house filled with guys, this simple fact stands out somewhat blatantly. It's not unusual to see me wearing something pink, or at the very least, carrying my favorite pink and brown purse.

Looking back, I think I was quite the amalgam while I was growing up. One moment I'd be playing Barbies and house; the next I'd be throwing the football with my dad and brother in the front yard. One moment I'd be teaching "school" to my stuffed animals; the next I'd be running the bases in a neighborhood game of baseball. I loved to wear dresses on Sundays, but I was ready to don my play clothes for a rough and tumble day of building forts in the woods.

When we gleefully welcomed our third son into our home nearly 10 years ago, I was joyful beyond comprehension. I knew our lives with these three boys would be filled with sports and adventure and experiments and ER visits and more chaos than I could imagine. I embraced that.

But I also made a firm resolution. While I would joyfully enter and engage in our sons' worlds of "guy stuff," I resolved I would not lose my "girliness."

So yeah, our house is filled with sports equipment, video games, sci-fi movies I simply don't get, and books about things I don't even try to get. There are Legoes, K'Nex, play guns and swords, green slime, and whoopie cushions.

And then sprinkled throughout, there are these---all received as gifts from loved ones who know and love me so well.

And as I reach for a pink bowl or mug, I get a giddy little smile on my face. For they're reminders of how blessed I am to be so well loved, celebrated, and cared for in this houseful of guys. There's nowhere else I'd rather be.

Awwww, we're so girly here (except for Mary's bugs)... that this makes me want to go buy something really MANLY for Jason since he ended up the only male in a house of estrogen. LOL!

The cool thing about being the only girl is that I bet you don't have to worry about sharing your girly stuff! I bet nobody gets into your fingernail polish or makeup.

I love your collection of PINK! The STarbucks cup is my favorite--it looks very much like you, friend! :)

I find that I have been gravitating more toward PINK each year. ;) Great post!
